Every IPTV setup follows the same four stages, whatever the screen: install a player, add your subscription, load the guide, and tune playback. Once you understand those stages, setting up a second or third device takes only a few minutes.
This guide covers the universal process. For screenshots-level detail on a particular platform, jump to the matching device page linked in each step.
Before you start
- Your activation details: an M3U URL, Xtream Codes login (server, username, password), or both. Not sure which is which? Read M3U and Xtream Codes explained.
- A compatible device — check the supported devices overview.
- A stable internet connection. Our IPTV internet speed guide explains what "stable" means in practice.
Step 1: Install an IPTV player
Pick a player from your device's official app store. If you are unsure which one to choose, our page on choosing an IPTV player compares the features that matter. Platform notes:
- Firestick / Fire TV setup
- Samsung & LG Smart TV setup
- Android phone, tablet & TV box setup
- iPhone, iPad & Apple TV setup
- Windows & Mac setup
- MAG box setup — no app needed; uses a portal URL instead.
Step 2: Add your IPTV subscription
Open the player
Look for "Add user", "Add playlist" or "Login" on the first screen.
Choose a login type
Select Xtream Codes (Xtream API) if available; otherwise choose M3U URL.
Enter your details
Type or paste them exactly — server URLs are case-sensitive and must include http:// or https:// and any port number.
Save and wait
The player downloads your channel list. The first load can take a minute on slower devices.
Getting an error at this stage? The M3U playlist setup guide lists the most common messages and how to resolve them.
Step 3: Load the TV guide
With Xtream Codes the guide usually appears automatically. With M3U, add the EPG URL in the player's settings, then refresh. If listings are missing or shifted, follow the fixes on our IPTV EPG page.
Step 4: Fine-tune playback
- Set the video decoder to hardware for smoother HD and 4K.
- Add your most-watched channels to Favourites.
- Hide categories you never use to speed up browsing.
- Enable parental controls if children use the device.
If anything stutters, work through the IPTV buffering fix guide before changing other settings.
