LG Smart TVs run webOS, with apps from the LG Content Store. As with Samsung, you can't install Android apps, but there are IPTV players made for webOS — and the setup process is similar across most of them.

Quick answer

To watch IPTV on an LG Smart TV, open the LG Content Store, install an IPTV player for webOS, note the device ID it shows, add your M3U URL or Xtream login on the developer's website using that ID, then restart the app. Use Ethernet for the most stable playback.

Step 1: Install a player from the LG Content Store

  1. Open the store

Press Home and open the LG Content Store (shown as Apps on newer models).

  2. Search for IPTV

Browse the IPTV players available for your TV.

  3. Choose carefully

Prefer players that support Xtream Codes, EPG and catch-up, with recent updates.

  4. Install and open

Install the app and launch it from the launcher bar.

Step 2: Activate and add your playlist

Most webOS IPTV players show a device ID or MAC address. Add your M3U URL or Xtream Codes login through the developer's website using that ID, then restart the app. The full process, including what to do when the ID changes, is in IPTV apps with MAC activation.

Step 3: LG settings that help IPTV

  • Quick Start+: turning it on makes the TV and apps resume faster; if an app behaves oddly, a full power-off (unplugging for a minute) clears it.
  • Network: prefer the Ethernet port, or move the router closer — see Wi-Fi vs Ethernet.
  • TruMotion: set to Off or a natural level to avoid the "soap opera" effect on live TV.
  • Sound out: if a soundbar is silent on some channels, switch digital sound output to PCM.

When to use a streaming device instead

If your LG TV is several years old, its store may offer few players and the processor may feel slow with large channel lists. A streaming stick or Android TV box plugged into HDMI usually solves both problems — compare options in the best device for IPTV guide.

LG Smart TV IPTV: frequently asked questions

No. LG TVs run webOS and only install apps from the LG Content Store.

Some are free and some charge an activation fee to the developer after a trial. This is separate from your IPTV subscription.

Reinstalling the app or resetting the TV can change the device ID. Re-add your playlist using the new ID on the player's website.

Conclusion

webOS players make IPTV possible without extra hardware. If the store's choice is limited or your TV feels slow, a stick or Android TV box will give you more options.
